Thermal Conductivity

One way is with high-performance cast-iron cylinder liners. They provide a durable wear surface for the piston rings that is critical for long engine life. And a locking interface helps move heat out of the cylinder to the water jackets, which direct hot coolant back to be cooled by the radiator.
Sodium-filled exhaust valve stems, as well as high thermal conductivity valve seats and guides, are also used. These help keep exhaust valves running cool under extreme high-performance situations.
